Long Night at Camp Blood Commentary Track

~The Story ~

Hello Readers!  So I'm going to go into the history of how this story came about before I begin the commentary.  Obviously, this story is similar in scope to the story I told last Halloween as it was inspired by the slasher movies of the 80's, most notably Friday the 13th (the original one).

This time rather than a who done it I decided to do a more direct homage.  The killer will be more subdued but it won't be someone that just appears in the 3rd act (like the original Friday the 13th).

Originally when I concocted this story Part 1 was going to just be a flashback to the survivors in the prologue chapter, followed by the Curse of Camp Blood in October.

The Prologue chapter took a life of its own and became a self-contained story just under 10,000 words.  Obviously, I could have put the flashback scene before the prologue but once it became its own short story the two did not fit.  So I decided to flesh out the story and it became A Long Night at Camp Blood.

I have to say that I enjoyed telling the full story and it did not play out as I originally envisioned it (will cover that as I go).  The one thing that I always had planned (based on the above statements) is that the cast of Curse of Camp Blood was always going to primarily feature characters from Fuller House with only a few originals.

Without further ado...

~ The Prologue ~

So when I decided to flesh out the flashback the first thing I did was create the cast (obviously).  Jackson and Sienna were the only two characters that would be featured in the tv show as they are in the sequel.

I wanted to use real dates so looking up Friday the 13th by years the two years that worked for my storytelling purposes were 2018 and 2021.  The latter is the year that Jackson, Ramona, and Rocki should graduate based on the (goofy) timeline established by the show.  That would put the teens at 15/16 (I said 16) which worked perfectly for me.  So setting the story during the Season 4 finale, Jackson and Rocki are broken up, baby Danielle is just born and everyone is relatively happy.

Now, most proms occur in late April, early May (depending on the size of the city and how many high schools).  That would put baby Dani's birth between May/June.  I picked May to give Jackson time to finish his school year and set up the idea for his summer job.

As some of my readers have stated (and I agree), the kids really were criminally underused during Season 4 and especially 5.  Far too much time was devoted to DJ.  In season 4 Jackson got a nice little story subplot about Steve teaching him how to drive.  The next logical step would be the episode where he goes to get it followed by the pursuit of a car (natural progression right?).

So my prologue delves into that without giving away (until the very end) where the story is going.

We are introduced to the owner of the camp and after the interview scene we pick up in the local that I do not name until the end.  Jackson then meets a few of the locals (including an attractive waitress) and four of the supporting cast.  The final introduction was that of Crazy Ralph, taken straight from Friday the 13th part 1.

I wanted to keep the title a secret for as long as possible which was why all titles were withheld until just before I posted Chapter 1.  That's why it was originally LN@CB on Pinterest, here and where ever I posted my stories.
