Final Commentary (Pt 2)
Note: Well after a rough November I am once again well enough to make my presence known online. I will just say that my disappearance was medically motivated (but not covid related). I am feeling much better so I will now finish my commentary. Look for other blog posts this week for writing news.
Part 2
Ann/Jessica Phillips: My mystery victim and killer. When I originally conceived this story I was just going to have a simple mystery killer (ala Friday the 13th). I soon thought of the idea of replacing the cook with the killer. My killer was going to eliminate the cook (who has only been seen by Chad's father), replace her fake her death, then reveal herself to the final girl.
Chance then brought me a picture. I had already decided on casting Dove Cameron as my killer. While I was looking for a picture to post in my pinterest (its still there) of Dove I found a picture of Peyton List (the one also in my pinterest) and comparing the two photos you could easily mistake the one for the other at a glance. At first I was just going to do look-a-likes and have Jessica bury the body (and fake the death scenario) but then the sister idea came to me. That made things easier for the other characters to continue believing that Ann/Jessica was dead as the body was visible whenever the characters went into the main hall. I did have to make one minor alteration. In reality Peyton is about 4 inch taller than Dove. I did not know this until after I had post the pictures well before I wrote the story. So I say in the story the two girls are the same size. Had I done my research right before posting the pictures I would have reversed the roles but to do so after would draw undo speculation by eagle eyed readers. (Live and learn)
Kimble Family
Diane Kimble: The name came from Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. Diane was Jason Vorhees sister. I figured using the Vorhees name was too obvious, so I went with Kimble as it was more common.
Jessica Kimble: The name of Diane's daughter in Jason Goes to Hell. Thus I made it her real name.
Dustin Kimble: The biggest deviation as he fills the role of Jason Vorhees. Dustin is not a mongoloid, he is just not a good swimmer and was not properly supervised. I picked his name from the character on Stranger Things.
Fuller/Harmon Families: I added the usual family drama between the mothers and children with the stepfather's being the voice of reason to the mothers.
Due to her experiences Rocki and Jackson author a book that becomes a best seller. I came up with the idea that R & J Fuller becoming R.J. Fuller and thus everyone thinking Rocki alone was RJ as things like that "mysteriously" happen. More than likely an editor took it upon themselves to arbitrarily make Rocki the sole credited author. Jackson did not care at all as the book was exactly what Rocki needed to find some semblance of herself again.
Obviously due to the nature of the story I couldn't insert the shower scene into the main story but I always intended to put it into the epilogue when I decided to write it. I tried to make it hot but different from previous shower love scenes, particularly since it was in a public setting.
I wanted to give a more detailed description of the events that happened to Jackson but obviously that narrative would not fit in the story as it gives away key information. But I knew many would like to know what happened to Jackson and once they knew he was alive and not the killer what was going on with him during the events of the story.
I always planned to have Rocki have a face to face with Jessica's biological mother. In some ways Rocki needed it to finally exercise her last remaining demons. She truly believed Jessica threw away a great life with the Phillips family that loved her for her entire life. She blamed Diane for everything that Jessica did to her friends. Deep down Rocki took great pleasure in revealing to Diane that she had killed Jessica, something that she had never really admitted to anyone. To clarify, Jackson told their parents and they wrote the book detailing Jessica's death. Rocki never says that she kills Jessica until that moment. She never wanted to become a killer but she refused to allow anyone else to repeat the last two murder sprees. Rocki took great pride in knowing that when Diane died that her family line would be gone and she planned to make sure that when Diane finally died that there would be no doubt that she was gone and have her cremated (witnessed by Jackson & Rocki).
As I am all about the happy ending I made the book popular and turned into a film (and a profitable one). The Fuller's are not greedy and share their wealth with the families of those lost (save Chad &Sienna whose families are well off). I gave the Fullers 4 children (as opposed to the usual 3) just because I wanted to be different.
I think I've covered all of the important events that you might want to know. Sorry for the long delay.
